Archery GB Membership Cards
At the NIAS General Committee Meeting held on Monday 6th February 2012 it was decided that as from the date of the NIAS Indoor Championships onwards ALL archers must show their Archery GB Membership Cards when registering at any competition or event. Should an archer not have received their Archery GB Membership Card yet, their formal receipt which was issued when their membership fee's were paid to their Club, should be provided as evidence of membership. Failure to provide either of the above will result in the archer being unable to shoot at that competition or event. (Please note: There will be some leniency shown for a short period of time only)
World Police & Fire Games 2013
As you may already know, the World Police & Fire Games (WPFG) are coming to Belfast from the 1st - 10th August 2013 & NIAS will be co-ordinating the archery elements of the event. Although final details are not yet available, it is anticipated that between 100 -150 archers will be competing across all styles, in Target (FITA 900), Field & 3D. The venues for the rounds will be Boucher Road Playing Fields for the Target & Hydebank Wood for the Field & 3D. Although some items of equipment will be purchased for the event by the WPFG, but in an attempt to reduce costs the organisers would seek to hire suitable equipment from Clubs. To that end would any Club like to express an interest in hiring out the following items of equipment:- 3D Targets Target stands for 122cm bosses Tents Furthermore NIAS would like to start compiling a list of volunteers to help at the event. If you are interesting in either providing equipment or volunteering would you please contact Kevin Bloomfield on 07934 477661 or via e-mail -kevin.archery@yahoo.co.uk

Archers add Strings to their Bows at Banbridge Award Ceremony

At the beginning of March Banbridge District Council held its 'Sports Personality of the Year Awards' at the Belmont Hotel in Banbridge. The evening was hosted by BBC Sport NI Presenter, Denise Watson.
Ballyvally Archery Club added another 'String to their Bow' at the Award Ceremony when Valerie Sleith won 'Sports Woman of the Year', and Mark Nesbitt won 'Sports Man of the Year'.
In 2011 Valerie Sleith was crowned All-British Archery Field Champion in the Senior Ladies' Longbow Class and she set a new British Field Archery Record for a one day 24 target FITA mixed Round.
Mark Nesbitt also had a very successful year, winning a bronze medal in both the Individual and Team Events at the European Field Championships in Italy. In May he was ranked first in the British Field Championships - the first time a male archer from Northern Ireland has won the competition. Mark is now down to the last eleven archers competing for a place on the GB Archery Team to compete at the 2012 Olympics.
NIAS would like to congratulate both Valerie Sleith and Mark Nesbitt on their outstanding achievements and in winning the above awards.
Patrick Huston - To become the United Kingdom Junior Archery Champion

Patrick Huston - who is a member of East Belfast Junior Archery Club - scored 594 out of a possible 600 points to become the United Kingdom Junior Archery Champion.
The Campbell College student's efforts in Telford, England helped the Northern Ireland Junior Archery Team win the Home Nations Competition for the first time.
Patrick's score matched the UK Under-18 record and he is now hoping to get into the British Junior Squad, and possibly have a crack at qualifying for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero.
